What springs to mind when you think of adventure?

Maybe it’s travelling the world and stepping foot on every continent. Perhaps it’s jumping out of a plane or swimming with sharks.

Do you think of adventure sports; abseiling down a 5,000 foot cliff face? What about adventure movies; heroes dodging bullets while jumping from rooftop to rooftop?

Well, in reality you don’t need to do anything that extreme to have an adventure.

If you check the dictionary, an adventure is simply ‘an unusual and exciting or daring experience’.

Merely going out for dinner at a new restaurant can be an adventure. Unusual? Check. Exciting? Well, I think so. Then that’s enough to make it an adventure!

Adventure is different for everyone.

For a lot of people, going diving might be quite an adventure. For a dive instructor, it’s perhaps not so unusual and exciting any more.

If you get the bus to work everyday, you’d more than likely think it was ridiculous to call this an adventure. But for the lucky ones that get chaffered around in a private car, getting a bus would be a lot more unusual and exciting.

Every day can be an adventure.

It is possible for all of us to make every single day an adventure. No matter how much money you have, what sort of job you have or what kind of lifestyle you lead; there’s always room to do something unusual and exciting.
